Growing companies & retreats

An interview with Periscoop Agency

You are probbaly reading this blog because you are in the same phase as many other companies. What started a while ago with a few people in a tiny co-working has already become a serious company with people in different locations.

From pioneering, trial & error and fast moving projects your company has become more mature. Moreover, your product or service is advancing and processes and structures need to come into place.

Key is to stay focused and get not consumed by all the side-activities. At the same you need to make sure that your remote people function as a team. You see the value of a team retreat or company offsite. This is often the point when customers start contacting us. Hence the organisation of the team event has become too complex and time-consuming.

In an interview with Daan, co-owner of Periscoop Agency, we discussed what problems they faced and why they decided for MiMon to organize their event.

MiMon: "Hi Daan, you have been organizing a retreat or offsite for your company before, right? Can you tell us why you think it is valuable?

Daan: " We started of a few years with a few people here in the office. Then we just decided at the Friday drink to go away with the team for a few days. It was pretty easy; with 2 cars, 2 hotel rooms we just went to a city nearby and stayed there for some nice food and some bars."

MiMon: "So it seemed you were not organizing a real offsite, but just a nice gathering. When was the point that you started to look for an event organizer?"

Daan: "Throughout the years we started growing our business, more and more people got involved. Surely, as we work with contractors, the communication lines changed as well. Although in this digital world it is not a problem, we were sometimes missing the direct contact. On top, the 2 car, 2 room strategy didn´t work anymore. We needed to start planning, book restaurants, invent team activities, arrange transport, check locations and venues etc.

MiMon: "That is exactly what we see a lot, the organization becomes a burden. Moreover, the expectations of the retreat participants is also changing when the company grows. So, how did you find us?

Daan: " At one of our team meetings we discussed the options for a team event. However, as we continue to grow and professionalize, we decided to blend work with leisure—essentially creating a "workation" or company offsite. One thing was important for us, we wanted to do a lot of activities outside and we wanted maximum team bonding. We found MiMon then by a common connection on Linkedin.

MiMon: " So you decided for Spain for the weather?

Daan: " Yes, amongst others, because we also knew that food is great, prices are acceptable and the connection is easy.

MiMon: " You already told us that you decided for a workation type of offsite, can you describe what you did?

Daan: " We decided for a 3 night stay in a really cool glamping spot, just an hour above Barcelona. MiMon selected it and it was a great choice. We had all the space for ourselves and we did a BBQ, a bicycle trip, mountain climbing, swimming and a celebration night in Girona. The venue was great, with spacious cabins and even a fire pit where we sat down with some cocktails and music"

MiMon: " We totally agree; it was a blast! Thanks Daan for your time!
